On May 4 (May 5 Japan time), at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA, the main event of the Top Rank card took place. Undisputed World Super Bantamweight Champion Naoya Inoue (Ohashi), undefeated in 29 fights (26 KOs), defended his titles against WBA No. 1, IBF No. 8, and WBO No. 10 contender Ramon Cardenas (USA), who held a record of 25 wins (14 KOs) and 1 loss. Inoue won by TKO at 45 seconds of the 8th round.

In the opening round, Inoue immediately intimidated Cardenas with light combinations. As Cardenas kept his guard high and cautious, Inoue threw jabs followed by right straights. In the second round, a right straight from Cardenas caused Inoue’s nose to bleed. Near the end of the round, Cardenas landed a surprising left hook that knocked Inoue down. Inoue got up and heard the bell to end the round, but it was clear that Cardenas had studied him, timing the punch similarly to what was seen in the fight against Nery.

In the third round, Inoue showed no signs of damage. He connected a jab to a right hand and pressed forward, but Cardenas responded with strong right straights and left hooks. In the fourth round, Inoue threw jabs, probing for openings in Cardenas’s guard. He landed a left to the body, and although Cardenas retreated after taking a right straight, he managed to fire back a left hook timed to Inoue’s finishing punches.

In the fifth round, Inoue’s jab forced Cardenas backward. Inoue cautiously watched for counters while searching for an opportunity to land his right hand. When Inoue closed the distance, Cardenas swung a dangerous left hook.

In the sixth round, despite taking Inoue’s jabs and left shots to the body, Cardenas stood his ground and looked for counterpunching opportunities. Inoue landed a right straight that pushed Cardenas back. He followed with combinations and a left body shot that nearly dropped Cardenas. Inoue continued his assault, but Cardenas resisted by swinging powerful left and right hooks.

Inoue then launched a relentless combination, hurting Cardenas with a right to the body and following up with repeated right straights until Cardenas finally went down.

In the eighth round, despite accumulating damage, Cardenas did not give up. However, Inoue landed another right straight and immediately closed in, unleashing a flurry of punches capped by a right uppercut and another right hand. As Cardenas bravely tried to withstand the assault, referee Thomas Taylor (USA) stepped in to stop the fight.

In the end, Inoue’s strength was once again clearly demonstrated, but Cardenas had studied Inoue thoroughly and showed courage by turning dangerous moments into opportunities.
