OPBF Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation featherweight champion Mikito Nakano (Teiken), ranked No. 8 by the IBF, No. 10 by both the WBA and WBC, and No. 11 by the WBO, entered the ring undefeated with 12 wins (11 KOs). He faced former NABO featherweight champion Pedro Marquez (Puerto Rico), who held a record of 16 wins (10 KOs) and 1 loss. Nakano won by TKO at 1 minute 58 seconds of the fourth round.

It was the southpaw Nakano’s debut in a U.S. ring. Marquez came in riding a 15-fight winning streak. Nakano started calmly, maintaining his distance, extending his left straight, and landing body uppercuts. Marquez’s right hand failed to connect. In the second round, Nakano’s one-two straight punches broke through Marquez’s guard, scoring a knockdown. After the fight resumed, Nakano landed a right hook to score a second knockdown, but Marquez stood up and showed his intent to fight back.

In the third round, Nakano’s left straight knocked Marquez down again. After getting up, Marquez swung wildly with left and right punches, but Nakano kept his composure and landed a sharp left straight counter.

In the fourth round, Marquez pressed forward with a jab followed by a sharp right straight. Nakano remained unfazed, landing a left straight followed by a right hook to Marquez’s body, scoring another knockdown. Marquez stood up again, but when Nakano drove another right hook into his body, Marquez dropped to the canvas once more. The referee immediately stopped the fight.

Nakano scored a complete victory by knocking down Marquez—who had never previously been knocked down—a total of five times. His left straight, which perfectly split through the guard, was impressive. It was a fight that gave a sense of his world-class potential.

In the 10-round bout for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Welterweight Title, Rohan Polanco (Dominican Republic), ranked No. 10 by the WBO and No. 15 by the WBC, who made his professional debut after representing his country at the Tokyo Olympics and signed with Top Rank in December 2022, faced former world title challenger Fabian Maidana (Argentina), who entered the bout with a record of 24 wins (18 KOs) and 3 losses. Polanco won by unanimous decision.

The 26-year-old rising star Polanco applied pressure from the first round against the experienced Maidana, landing jabs and powerful right straights. In the second round, as Maidana moved forward, Polanco countered with a strong right hand from his L-shaped guard.

In the third round, Maidana tried to counter Polanco’s right-hand attacks with his signature right counter, but Polanco continued to press forward, landing body shots followed by right straights. In the fourth round, Polanco intensified the pressure, landing heavy rights with his whole body. Maidana, with his back to the ropes, tried to counter but showed signs of damage.

In the fifth round, Maidana repeatedly retreated under Polanco’s relentless pressure. Polanco landed strong jabs and powerful right hands. In the sixth round, Maidana came out aggressively, but Polanco quickly pushed him back and took control.

By the seventh round, Maidana was only retreating, enduring Polanco’s attacks against the ropes. A left hook made Maidana buckle at the knees. In the eighth round, the fight became one-sided, with Maidana struggling to withstand Polanco’s relentless offense while his occasional punches missed the target.

In the ninth round, Maidana, determined, tried to come forward but was driven back by Polanco’s powerful jabs. In the final round, Polanco pressed for a knockout while Maidana desperately tried to evade. With 30 seconds left, Polanco landed a right uppercut to the body, sending Maidana down. Maidana stood up at the count of nine and managed to survive until the final bell. The judges all scored the fight 100-89.

In an 8-round bout for the vacant NABF Junior Super Lightweight Title, Emiliano Vargas (USA), son of former WBA & IBF World Super Welterweight Champion Fernando Vargas, entered the ring undefeated with 13 wins (11 KOs) against Juan León (Spain), who held a record of 11 wins (2 KOs), 2 losses, and 1 draw. Vargas won by TKO at 1 minute 40 seconds of the second round. 🥊

In the opening round, Vargas used his quick one-two combinations to press León, but León boldly advanced and responded, landing a right uppercut. In the second round, as León closed the distance, Vargas landed a powerful right straight, scoring a knockdown. León stood up and resumed the fight, but Vargas unleashed a strong right hook followed by a left hook. León fell to the canvas, hitting the back of his head, and the fight was stopped immediately.

In a 10-round featherweight bout, Ra’eese Aleem (USA), ranked No. 7 by the IBF with a record of 21 wins (12 KOs) and 1 loss, faced Rudy Garcia (USA), who had 13 wins (2 KOs), 1 loss, and 1 draw. Aleem won by unanimous decision. The scores were 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93.
