Sam Goodman (Australia), the IBF super bantamweight No. 1, WBO No. 2, and WBC No. 3, with an undefeated record of 19 wins (8 KOs), is scheduled to return to the ring after previously withdrawing from a January 24 bout against undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (29-0, 26 KOs) at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena due to a left eyelid injury.

Goodman will face WBC bantamweight No. 21 and WBC FECARBOX bantamweight champion Cesar "Baca" Espinoza (Mexico) — with a record of 19 wins (12 KOs), 1 loss, and 1 draw — on May 14 (May 15 Japan time) at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia.

In December last year, Goodman suffered a laceration above his left eyelid requiring four stitches during sparring. The injury caused the original bout with Inoue to be postponed by one month. However, during a sparring session on January 11, Goodman reinjured the same area, this time requiring 14 stitches, forcing him to formally withdraw from the title challenge. Goodman underwent corrective surgery, with an initial recovery estimate of six months. However, he is now returning to the ring sooner than expected.

This will be Goodman’s first fight since July 10 last year in Wollongong, Australia, where he defeated WBC super bantamweight No. 8 Chainoi Worawut (Thailand) (25 wins, 15 KOs, 1 loss, 1 draw) by unanimous decision over 12 rounds. “I can’t wait to get back in the ring,” Goodman stated, as he sets his sights once again on a world title opportunity.

The 23-year-old Espinoza traveled to Japan in June 2023, where he served as a sparring partner for Naoya Inoue. His only professional loss came on December 16, 2023 (December 17 Japan time) in Tijuana, Mexico, when he faced Erik Robles (Mexico) — who held a record of 16 wins (10 KOs) and 3 losses — in a bout for the vacant NABO super bantamweight title. Espinoza lost by unanimous decision with scores of 94-96, 92-98, and 92-98. Since then, he has bounced back and is currently riding a three-fight winning streak.

The undisputed heavyweight title fight between WBO, WBC, and WBA Super world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine) — 23 wins (14 KOs), undefeated — and IBF world heavyweight mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois (UK) — 22 wins (21 KOs), 2 losses — has been officially announced by Queensberry Promotions. The bout will take place on July 19 (July 20 Japan time) at Wembley Stadium in London. The event will be broadcast on DAZN. The two fighters will meet again for the first time since their previous clash on August 26, 2023 (August 27 Japan time) at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland.
